Above left is a view of tunnel wall and state of broken timbers well inside the bowels of the famous tunnel. Note the rather rough walls carved from manual labor during the early 1870's. Photo above right shows the rather ornate stone and brickwork of other portions of the tunnel which have faired far better than other areas.
